Check out/download my guest mix

I made a downloadable mix for the awesome Land Of Cockaigne music blog. I wrote silly things about all the songs. Check it out and then go to Land Of Cockaigne to listen to and read about other amazing mixes. And make sure to check back and follow LOFC because there’s more awesome stuff on the way…

SCORE! got my first two guest mixes today and I’m super excited to listen to both of them. Hope to get more soon.

I got this one e-mailed first (by about an hour) so it will get the #1 spot. Here goes:

Description:

So I know Colin is all about the short and sweet mixes, but I’m a firm believer in the whole you got an hour and twenty minutes, so fill it theory. So here goes my 24 song 1hour 18min mix, entitled “I Am The Poster On Your Wall.”

1. Lights and Music by Cut Copy
This song just makes me wanna hop on a jet and fly straight to Miami and go clubbing till 5am and then crash in a beach house with all the other obnoxiously dressed club kids. Of course, I can’t get into clubs for a few more years yet, but this song will make me dance wherever and whenever.

2. Oh! Emetophobia! by Showbread.
Emetophobia is the fear of throwing up. I am not sure what that has to do with this love song. But it’s fast and fun so I don’t care.

3. Control by Kid Sister.
So of course everyone knows Kid Sister’s song Pro Nails, and with good reason. But Control is actually my favorite selection by Kid Sis, where she proves that she shines solo as well.

4. Illiterate City by ?
That question mark is not a band name, I just don’t know who did this. Regardless, if you only listen to one song on this CD….please listen to this one. It will blow your mind. I promise. Hint: Jackson 5. and Guns and Roses. Yuhyuhhh.

5. Sally by Foxboro Hot Tubs
So for those not in the pop-punk know, Foxboro Hot Tubs is Green Day’s sideproject. But don’t be scared away; the only reason anyone would know Green Day was involved is Billie Joe Armstrong’s instantly recognizable snotty voice. This song is absically one big Monkees rip off, and it’s awesome.

6. Small Town Girl by Good Shoes
I live in a small town. I want to move to Hollywood. Good Shoes fucking rule. This song makes me really happy. End of story.

7. We Are Rockstars by Does It Offend You, Yeah?
This song is British wanna be Daft Punk awesomeness. I am constantly revising my list of songs I wish would start blasting everytime I walked into a room, but this is currently up there.

8. Live Your Life by T.I. featuring Rihanna
Don’t let the fact that this song samples O-Zone scare you off. It’s a leaked track from T.I.’s upcoming album. It features Rihanna and it’s Top 40 goodness. Rihanna’s part is the shit.

9. Manifest Destiny by Guster
This song is just totally freaking adorable. I love the piano in it. It’s just so upbeat and happy and makes me smile every time.

10. La Valse D’Amelie (Orchestral Version) by Yann Tiersen
This is one of the main songs from the Amelie soundtrack and also one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It’s just 2 minutes of fantastic and graceful composition. I don’t usually like movie music but I can listen to this on repeat and never get tired.

11. I Like Food by Descendents
…And now for something completely different. Quintessential Descendents clocking in at about 20 seconds.

12. The Gold Song by Bouncing Souls
Bouncing Souls at their punky best. This song makes me wanna pump my fist and yell something snotty.

13. Solo Impala by The Fashion
The first time I heard The Fashion, I hated them. Then they slowly but surely grew on me. They are still a little to American Apparel hipster for me but this song is chillax greatness.

14. Dead Pop Stars by Altered Images
If you appreciate old school snotty punky new wave with a pissed but oddly elegant girl at the mic, then you will be so down with this track. Since I kind of wanna be one of those 1980s angry punk girls, this song makes me wanna go start a shitty loud band.

15. Stayin’ Alive In The Wall by Wax Audio
Pretty much the same description as track 4. Listen. To borrow a phrase from Nike…just do it. This song will also blow your mind. The Who and The Beegees. Mmmhmnnn…

16. Swiss Army Romance by Dashboard Confessional
Yes, you liked Dashboard Confessional in 6th grade. So did I. I just never grew out of it. This is the single that everyone loved, but I still adore it. It’s an all-time fave of mine. You will probably find it boring. That’s cool. I’ll just go cry in my emo corner. Ha.

17. Medicine Man by The Hush Sound
I don’t know what to say. I just really like this song. It’s cool. And Greta Salpeter is the shit. So give it a spin.

18. Antonia by Motion City Soundtrack
My 2nd all-time favorite song about a girl (after Blink-182’s Josie). Even if the song was complete trash (which it isn’t, it rules), I’d listen just for the lyrics.

19. Staring At The Rude Bois by Gallows featuring Lethal Bizzle
This song is actually a cover of Staring At The Rude Bois by The Ruts. Nasty British punk rock…how could you go wrong?

20. L.E.S. Artistes by Santogold
Borderline too hip for my tastes, but Santogold’s raw, awesome voice makes me stand by it.

21. Outta Clothes!! by 5G Productions
The Gym Class Heroes mashed up with Hall And Oates. Yes, it is as fantastic as it sounds.

22. Miami by Taking Back Sunday
All I’m gonna say is that you might be suprised by this song. Yeah, I’m suggesting that you might actually enjoy Taking Back Sunday. Deal. You can continue to brush it off, but I’ll be jamming.

23. Your Ex-Lover Is Dead by Stars
This song is devestatingly gorgeous. Fin.

24. Well I Guess I Wasted My Summer Now by John Ralston
I love the instrumentation on this song. Actually, I love pretty much everything about it, even John Ralston’s I’m-too-cool NYC underground scene voice that sometimes seems at odd with his calm and pretty acoustic-y music. But when it works, it really works, and this song is a perfect example of that.
