It may be lazy to reblog, but this is a song very much worth reblogging. It’s the song Resolution by Jack’s Mannequin, Andrew McMahon’s solo project. At age 10 I discovered Something Corporate, McMahon’s first band, and I fell in love. Their CD North quickly became what I still describe as a musical security blanket; it remains one of the only CDs that lulls me back into sleep when I’m tossing and turning. Hearing any of these songs makes me feel better anytime.

Then Something Corporate went on hiatus, but Andrew McMahon started Jack’s Mannequin so I was stoked. His first release with Jack’s Mannequin was Everything In Transit. Everything In Transit was basically North part 2; listening to that CD is going home no matter where I am. Everything In Transit has helped me through many of the minor traumas of everyday middle & high school and I’m not ashamed to say that I will ramble passionately about North and Everything In Transit ‘till your ears fall off (as I seem to be doing currently).

Then, right as Everything In Transit was released, McMahon was diagnosed with leukemia. It was scary, but after a near miss and a bone marrow transplant from his sister, he made it through and started touring again. These days everything is pretty much back to normal, and tomorrow McMahon is releasing a pre release EP in promotion for his sophmore full length, The Glass Passenger, which is out September 30th.

A couple weeks ago I met and interviewed Andrew McMahon at Warped Tour (I’ll post the audio soon). I didn’t really get to tell him how much his music means to me, but I’m going to assume/hope it showed in my eyes and voice, and that the few simple scentences that I did say conveyed how I feel.

This song is a return to everything that that I adore about Andrew McMahon; when he hits rock bottom, he can still cheer and celebrate in what is good about life. I will always find solace in Jack’s and SoCo’s darker songs (when I am miserable there is nothing better than listening to a miserable song), but what I will always most appreciate are the uplifting songs that give me strength to face everything and anything that comes my way; and that is why Andrew McMahon remains an inspiration and a hero (and these are not words I use lightly).

Thanks to Curt for posting this song (even if you are hatin’ on us 15 year old girls, haha)!

Jack’s Mannequin - The Resolution

OMG. Please listen to this song. Has Andrew McMahon has finally shaken off his last vestiges of emo-dom? He has always been one of my favorite songwriters and it is good to see that as I mature, he has as well. I’ve always thought McMahon would fit in better on a tour with Ben Folds than pop-punk bands; hopefully with this new single McMahon’s abilities can finally be recognized by someone other than 15 year old girls and myself.
